The Rocket Classic is set to tee off from Detroit Golf Club for the final time on July 30.
Rocket Companies announced earlier this year that it would not exercise its sponsorship option after this year, bringing an end to a tournament that debuted in 2019. As the tournament draws near, some of the top names in the world of golf will be teeing it up.
Jordan Spieth, Chris Gotterup, Cameron Young, Wyndham Clark and Brooks Koepka are just a handful of players highlighting the star-studded final edition of the tournament in Detroit, Michigan.
While there are plenty of well-known golfers in the field, three players decided to withdraw from the tournament ahead of Thursday’s first round.
Keith Mitchell started the wave of withdrawals on Saturday when he opted against playing the tournament, allowing Matt Kuchar to sneak into the field. Just a day later, Maverick McNealy withdrew from the tournament, which allowed for Lanto Griffin to sneak in, but only for a short period of time.
Griffin was bounced from the tournament after Ben Kohles finished inside the top 10 at the 3M Open. He was later added to the field once again thanks to Koepka’s involvement in the tournament.
Phenom Blades Brown was the third golfer to opt out. He decided to play a Korn Ferry Tour tournament instead as he attempts to win his PGA Tour card through Korn Ferry Tour graduation.
